Hyper-V vs. VMware: Which is cheaper?

There is much discussion about Virtualization and the three main options for IT Managers to consider….

So which is really the better option? Cost / Features / Future Development are all important points and depending on who you talk to you will get a good case for any of the big three names.

The usual concerns are that Xen doesn’t seem to be establishing a very secure footprint? what are Citrix really going to do with the technology? VMware is the market leader by far with many features and capabilities that the other two cannot touch, they also have the biggest installed footprint but what is Microsoft going to do about this, no one thinks that they are not going to have a go at taking the lead? Microsoft say that virtualization using their Hyper V product is cheaper, but do we believe them? and how stable is it going to be long term? Both Xen and VMware have fantastic stability records….

So there is much to consider and confusion seems to reign?

Here at LETN we have our opinion and its VMware, in the real world when you are managing a critical environment and need dynamic resource sharing, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery features it is in our experience the only choice. Xen and Hyper V have their places but for IT Production Infrastructure its VM ware all the way.

This excellent Article (which is independent) is worth a read if you are considering virtualizing at the moment. http://searchservervirtualization.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid94_gci1346926,00.html
